Cape Chamomile

Cape Chamomile (Eriocephalus spp.) is restricted to the winter-rainfall region of South Africa and only grows in the Cape Floral Kingdom and Greater Cape Floristic Region. Eriocephalus ericoides is the most widely distributed species and occurs in Namibia, the Free State, and the Northern, Western, and Eastern Cape.

Herbal distillates, also known as floral waters, hydrosols, hydrolats, herbal waters, and essential waters, are aqueous products of hydro distillation. They are colloidal suspensions of essential oils and water-soluble components obtained by steam distillation or hydrodistillation (a variant of steam distillation) from plants and herbs. 

These herbal distillates have been used as flavorings and cosmetics. Common herbal distillates for skincare include rose water, orange flower water, and witch hazel. Rosemary, oregano, and thyme are hydrosols that may be used in food manufacturing.
